On February 24th, 2022, the Delegation of the European Union to Mongolia, together with SOCIEUX+, co-hosted an information session in Ulaanbaatar dedicated entirely to the SOCIEUX+ Facility. Around 30 participants from government ministries, implementing agencies, social partners, trade unions, employer organisations, academia, and research facilities gathered to understand the possibilities for cooperation on advancing social protection and employment policies within the framework of EU technical cooperation.

The information session started with an opening speech by the Minister of Labour and Social Protection of Mongolia, A. Ariunzaya, who stressed the importance of continued partnership with the EU and its relevance in terms of the social protection and employment challenges in Mongolia.

A revision of social protection package of five laws is currently being proceeded and for its implementation, the technical support from SOCIEUX+ could be further discussed. The ministry of Labour and Social Protection is pursuing its Welfare to Employment strategy.  As for the labour market policies, one of the key targets is to increase the employability among youth and women.

The Team Leader of the Cooperation Section of the EU Delegation, Adrien Mourgues, also gave an overview of EU commitments to projects implemented in Mongolia.

Key information about the SOCIEUX+ Facility, its intervention modalities, cooperation principles with partner institutions, and the formation of tailor-made actions for each specific project was presented by Marzena Breza, Development and Technical Advisor for Social Protection of SOCIEUX+.

Participants expressed their interest in different cooperation modalities, especially the employment of people with disabilities, public-private partnerships, and responses to labour market challenges.
