SOCIEUX+ in Mexico:  launch of the new organisation ONIESS

The launch of the National Organization of State Institutions of the Social Security in Mexico (ONIESS) was held on September 28th and 29th in Campeche, Mexico. The organisation, wich will link more than twenty state institutions, is tasked with increasing the exchange of information and best practices, improving harmonisation in programme designs, and achieving greater institutional coordination among state social security systems. Mexico currently has a fragmented system of numerous social security and pension programmes. With various federal and local entities facing the dual challenges of an ageing population and financial pressures, they have welcomed the creation of this new platform. The ONIESS is the result of the initiative of the Social Security Institute of the State of Guanajuato (ISSEG), which since 2015, has benefited from EU expertise mobilised by SOCIEUX+ in several work sessions.
