SOCIEUX+ in Mexico: Establishment of the National Organization of State Social Security Institutions

The process of establishing a coordination platform for Mexican state social security institutions has achieved another significant step. Since 2015, SOCIEUX+ has contributed to the emergence of a coordination mechanism for state social security systems, drawing from the example of the EU Social Protection Committee and its non-compulsory coordination mechanisms.

After the establishment of the Organización Nacional de Instituciones Estatales de Seguridad Social (National Organization of State Social Security Institutions; ONIESS) in September 2017, SOCIEUX+ has provided strategic support at two levels: outlining a system of indicators for monitoring social security policies in the country; and, defining the technical specifications for a website and digital platform. With this online platform, ONIESS will enhance its corporate visibility, and its members will be able to easily share knowledge, information, and practices.

The latest SOCIEUX+ mission, in April 2018, was held in Zacatecas state. There, two information technology (IT) experts from France and Spain advised participants on the most effective ways to improve their respective corporate web images.

On 24-25 May, 2018, ONIESS held its first General Assembly in Mexico City. The result of that assembly was the outline of a 3-year workplan. SOCIEUX+ looks forward to continuing its technical support to ONIESS and its member institutions, to reinforce mechanisms for coordinating social security policies and enhance overall sustainability of these policies at the national level.
