Highlights
In the SOCIEUX+ metapapers, we synthesise knowledge on current policies, interventions or approaches, and their outcomes for beneficiaries, derived from technical cooperation cases carried out by the EU Facility SOCIEUX+ in collaboration with its partners around the world over the last few years. The aim is to inform and inspire policy makers and stakeholders.
This metapaper explores access to the labour market and social protection for individuals working in the informal sector. It highlights the challenges faced by informal workers, including lack of legal recognition, absence of social security, and economic vulnerability. The metapaper discusses policy measures and institutional frameworks that can improve their working conditions and rights.
Key insights include the importance of formalizing informal work to ensure decent working conditions, the role of government interventions in providing inclusive social protection schemes, and the need for cross-sectoral collaboration. Case studies illustrate how different countries address these issues through innovative policies.
The analysis underscores the social and economic impact of informality, showing how it affects both workers and broader economic structures. The paper calls for integrated approaches combining legal, financial, and social strategies to create sustainable solutions.
Overall, this publication serves as a valuable resource for policymakers, researchers, and stakeholders seeking to enhance labor rights and social security for informal workers worldwide.
